Abstrakt

Emotionality of the Polish Enlightenment in the Contextof the Intellectual History of Water (in the Lightof Research Conductedafter1989). A Reconnaissance The starting point of this article is the updating of the tradition of the Polish Enlightenment and areas of research on this period between1944–1989. An indication of a change in research perspectives after 1989 —with a paralel apparently negating the rational, radical and materialistic image of the Enlightenment — leads the author to reflect on the legitimacy of the use of the tools of anthropology and philosophy of affection in contemporary research on the 18th century. These considerations are based on the analysis of aquatic motifs in personal document (Izabela Czartoryska), literary works (Elżbieta Drużbacka and Adam Naruszewicz), and are conducted in the context of the history of spa intellectual salons (Cieplice Śląskie Zdrój). The presented considerations are based on the assumption that the history of the ideas of the Enlightenment of aquatics (intellectual history of aqua) may bring us closer to recognize cultural practices of expressing emotions and experiences in the Polish Age of Reason.
