EnlightenmentWriters on the Silence in the City The considerations included in this article concern the ways the authors of the Enlightenment captured areas of silence experienced in the sphere which is not devoted to sacrum, as the sphere being in the opposition to noise in the city. On the basis of selected texts (Jan Gorczyczewski’s, Niewygody w Warszawie; Franciszek Jaksa Makulski’s, Sejmiki 1790; Wincenty Kamieński’s, Przypadki lubelskie; Franciszek Dionizy Kniaźnin’s, Powązki), I also present the techniques of reflecting active perception of audial stimuli and their influence on ‘people’s behaviour and emotions.
